Young Lions Jazz Conservatory is proud to announce that YLJC student, Joey Kim-Weigandt, has won the prestigious Downbeat Magazine’s 47th Annual Student Music Awards for High School Honors Outstanding Composition! 👏🎉
"I've loved music since I was little, but had no idea how exciting performing could be until I began playing in a small ensemble with the Young Lions Jazz Conservatory. I love the freedom of jazz music and the chance to improvise and perform alongside friends. I also love to compose and really appreciate the chances I've had to perform my original compositions with YLJC around San Diego. Gilbert Castellanos has been a great mentor and teacher, and I am thankful for him and for the entire YLJC family I am lucky to be part of. I'm currently a junior and hoping to continue with jazz in college and become a professional musician."
