About Miles Davis' Porgy and Bess
Featuring one of the “hippest” renderings of “Summertime” - one of the most familiar melodies in the Great American Songbook - the album is perhaps the greatest collaboration between the two, and is credited for reversing the bebop aesthetic, slowing down the chord shifts to allow the soloist to stay on one modality and invent his own melody and mood. The full track list of this iconic album includes “Buzzard Song,” “Bess, You Is My Woman Now,” “Gone,” “Gone, Gone, Gone,” “Summertime,” “Oh Bess, Oh Where’s My Bess,” “Prayer (Oh Doctor Jesus),” “Fisherman, Strawberry and Devil Crab,” “My Man’s Gone Now,” “I Ain’t Necessarily So,” “Here Come De Honey Man,” “I Loves You, Porgy,” “There’s A Boat That’s Leaving Soon for New York,” and “Gone (take 4).” Gilbert Castellanos and his 20-piece "Porgy and Bess" Orchestra play every track on a wonderful evening by the Bay.
